Rover Scouting in pursuit of service to the society

A society is said to be developed after the well proportioned development of infrastructures such as; education, health, transport, communication, water resource, electricity, skilled manpower etc. A country sets its plans and policies as per its Physical, Geographical, Social, Economic, and Historical configuration. The strategy may differ from one country to another, but there is one similarity; the requirement of dedicated, supportive, autonomous, and responsible citizen. It would be cent percent true to say Rover Scouting is complementary to the formal education for shaping youth as the desired citizen. For instance, an engineer may acquire related knowledge through formal education. But he can think of serving mankind beyond himself  in a civilized way only after rovering during youth stage; the stage in which he is tempted to forget his responsibilities and duties for the sake of his instantaneous pleasure.                                                             Are we trying to make ourselves a true rover scout whose motto is 'Service'?
Before knowing how rovering can prove itself as a complementary to formal education, let's know what rovering is.

Fundamental Principle of Scouting;

The principles are the fundamental laws and beliefs which must be observed when achieving the purpose.
They represent a code of conduct which characterizes all members of the Movement. Scouting is based upon three broad principles which represent its fundamental laws and beliefs. They are referred to as

  2. Duty To Self
  3. Duty To Others
  4. Adherance to  Scout Promise and Law
As their

Journal on a Personal Life of Lord Baden Powell

In January 1912, Baden-Powell was en route to New York on a Scouting World Tour, on the ocean liner Arcadian, when he met Olave St Clair Soames She was 23, while he was 55; they shared the same birthday, 22 February. They became engaged in September of the same year, causing a media sensation due to Baden-Powell's fame. To avoid press intrusion, they married in secret on 31 October 1912, at St Peter's Church in parkstone The Scouts of England each donated a penny to buy Baden-Powell a wedding gift, a car (note that this is not the Rolls-Royce they were presented with in 1929). There is a monument to their marriage inside St Mary's Church, Brownsea Island.

Millitary career Of Lord Baden Powell

In 1876, R.S.S. Baden-Powell, as he styled himself then, joined the 13th Hussars in India with the rank of lieutenant. He enhanced and honed his military scouting skills amidst the Zulu in the early 1880s in the Natal province of South Africa, where his regiment had been posted, and where he was Mentioned in Despatches. During one of his travels, he came across a large string of wooden beads, worn by the Zulu king Dinizulu, which was later incorporated into the Wood Badge training programme he started after he founded the Scouting Movement. Baden-Powell's skills impressed his superiors and he was brevetted Major as Military Secretary and senior Aide-de-camp of the Commander-in-Chief and Governor of Malta, his uncle General Sir Henry Augustus Smyth. He was posted in Malta for three years, also working as intelligence officer for the Mediterranean for the Director of Military Intelligence. He frequently

A word to patrol Leader

I want you Patrol leaders to go on and train your patrol entirety yourselves, because it is possible for you to get hold of each boy in your patrol and make a good fellow of him. It is no use having one or two brilliant boys and rest no good at all. You should try to make them all fairly good.

The most important step to this is our own example, because what you do yourselves, your scouts will also do. Show them that you can obey orders whether they are given by words or are printed or written rules and that you can carry them out whether your scout master is present or not. Show them that you can earn badges of proficiency and your boys will follow with very little persuasion. But remember that you must give them the lead and not the push.

  Yours, (BP)

Brief Life History Of Lord Baden Powell

Scouting from its beginning era;

Lord Baden Powell thought this would not be attractive and suggested that it could grow much larger when scouting would be used. This thought arose in his mind after his return to England, gaining success from “the siege of Mafeking”. He noticed that the boys showed considerably interest in the book, a small instruction book written about military scouting, Aids to Scouting. It was the year 1900 A.D. Later the book was adapted as “Scouting for boys”.
Scouting, an educational movement, with mission  to educate young people through a system based on the “ Scout Promise and Law “ by assisting them to establish intellectual, social, physical and spiritual value , started on 1907 A .D. with 21 people, today, is rich of more than 41 million people under the same roof of its principle. The common and consistent thought, (i.e. duty to self and others), of scouts all over the world had already made it arrive to its 106th glorious year. Principle of Scouting; appropriate for all races, class, creed, religion, society and many more similes, is the key factor for the universal achievement of this movement. The possession of suppleness or moreover dynamism in itself made it such a millions likely. This movement had really succeeded to prove itself as gigantic utility to people of all age group.  The development of characteristics of distribution and allocation of authorities, sharing of responsibilities,  departmentation of chores,  sound leadership, people oriented strategy, democratic system , maintenance of proper hierarchy, possession of unique system, so called patrol system, spending time together in small groups with shared experiences, rituals and activities, emphasizing good citizenship, decision making and many more in the young people through the keen adherence of principle of this dynamic process had also provided a deep assistance for its greater triumph.
The chronology of scouting consists of oodles of positive changes from its very early beginning Era. Scouting and Girls guiding thought was fashioned by Sir Lord Baden Powell but he single-handedly couldn’t advise all the groups who requested his assistance. So, in the year 1910 and 1911 Scoutmasters Trainings were organized. The number likely to this dynamic and educational movement in fact increased from finger countable figure to million just after its
