RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN AFFORESTATION AND SCOUTING

The initiative was organized by the local club in collaboration with Kantipur Open Rover Ranger Crew (KORC). The event saw the active participation of scouts with other local people who gathered in kusunti, Lalitpur  in the framework of the local club.
Rover/Rangers of Kantipur Open Rover Ranger Crew (KORC) devoted themselves to this environmental exercise by each one of them planting a trees in order to fight the encroachment of desertification in the Kusunti area of  Lalitpur .

AFFORESTATION
Afforestation is establishment of forest or stand of trees in an area where there was no forest. It refers to the conversion of wasteland into a woodland or forest. It is the best technique used to maximize the green house effect. Many government
and non- government organization directly engage in program of afforestation to create forests, increase carbon capture and sequestration, and help to anthropogenically improve biodiversity

SCOUTING
In common parlance, scouting can be simply defined as the non-formal educational movement targeted to contribute to the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potentials as individuals as responsible citizensand as member of their local, national and international communities.

There is an interrelationship between  scouting and afforestation. There is a saying of one tree equal to one mans life. So afforestation is very much important.Afforestation and such types of program are linked in different way in our life.We can relate this by the fundamental principle of scouting i.e. Duty to god, Duty to self, and Duty to others.

Duty to god- By planting one tree we are helping our society as well.According to Hindu myth this world is created by god’s nature and its living beings are gods gifted. As in present situation forest are being destroyed rapidly. When we help doing afforestation we save nature which means we are saving god’s gift. This helps us to fulfill 1st fundamental principle duty to god.

Duty to self – Being self dependent and self responsible means duty to self. When we plant trees, we are saving this world in our own way. Industrialization and new developments policies are cutting down trees rapidly but if we go one step forward then we are fulfilling our own duty.

Duty to others- whether animal or a person we are doing our duty to others. Afforestation helps to save rare animals, maintain balance in eco system, preserve wild habitat. If we plant a tree then it will help to save our entire world including its living creature.

So directly or indirectly there is an relationship between afforestation and scouting.
